What it saves in practice
Run the numbers for an average pitch image. With a render engine, even one you know well, you easily spend half a day: setting up the scene, tuning materials and lighting, running test renders of ten to twenty minutes each, and then the post-processing. If you do not know the engine, add a learning curve of weeks, the license costs and a PC with a serious graphics card.
